Good morning and Welcome! to the Scales of Ma’at for the 09Aug2016 : my Heart is on top of the ‘Observatoire’ with Galileo gazing at the stars in XVII the Star while the Feather of Truth is off to one of those endless official functions at which she hopes to catch a glimpse of the Doge in IV the Emperor. (The deck today is an Italian oversized historico-art deck, the *Tarocchi di Venezia* by Davide Tonato, Giulia Orsini and Giordano Berti.  If you like the Double-Crème-Oreo-rococco luxury curly-fries school of art & decoration that IS Venice, then you’ll like this deck. It’s a bit florid for my taste, but limited doses of it are refreshing and very artsy-intestinally-gassy. The cards ARE gorgeous, oversized and all have a very human feeling, not cold & distant at all. They are keyed to historical events in the tales which abound of Venice. “What happens in Venice stays in Venice.” LOL. ) (Today is my sister Dana’s birthday, and I wish to take this opportunity to wish her the very, VERY best under the skies of the Cosmos. I love you, Sis, & Happy Birthday!) On with the reading, for Valhalla’s sake! Today being my sister’s birthday, I am happy to have my Heart residing in XVII the Star. And with the Feather of Truth in Emperor, I am in charge of my day and need to paternally, imperially, assume the leadership and duty of organizing the day to have meaningful content. (That is the short wrap-up for me. For the rest, I’m going to plug in canned meanings that I think will help with the cards.) Jupiter in Aquarius or Venus in Pisces is the long-standing acquaintance of XVII the Star. The card itself is Aquarius and on the Tree of Life runs from Chokmah to Tiphareth on a current of Air. The Star is the trump of hope and trust, for the sensitive understanding of cosmic coherence, the intuition that everything is in balance and harmony. . . The Star is also called the 'Guiding Light', and is taken as a symbol of the deep realization that the chosen way is the right one, that the end of this way will be a good one, and that there is perfect harmony between the psychical feeling and the physical doing. The summary of several tawdry explanations says that it is a card of hope. On other planes it has been certified as immortality and interior light. For the majority of prepared minds, the figure will appear as the type of Truth unveiled, glorious in undying beauty, pouring on the waters of the soul some part and measure of her priceless possession.
But she is in reality the Great Mother in the Kabalistic Sephira Binah, which is supernal Understanding, who communicates to the Sephiroth that are below in the measure that they can receive her influx. Turning from my Heart in XVII the Star, I see the Feather of Truth looking sententious & important beside IV the Emperor. With the Sun in Capricorn, standing for responsibility and order, he is Aries, and walks from Metzach to Yesod on a tongue of flame. Nothing is more solid, stable with a basic orientation as the Emperor . . . the Emperor is the social word, the structure of civilization, a symbol for its law and order, may they be good or bad, but the power behind them. He is the abstraction of establishment, its stability and security. In its negative aspects the card can represent the force of bad law in a society where stability is rated higher than morals or ethic. Once law and order are established as an institution, a bad emperor can turn out to be a disaster. And even at his best the Emperor is limited - he puts restrictions and borders to the spontaneity of spirit and nature. In a more personal view the Emperor might stand for a time of stability and structure, linear thinking and discipline. Yet we can't live without it, too many of those attributes will only lead to rational despotism and mental poverty.” So the Truth today is hold stable; Mark; the stars may be exciting you with hope, but stay the course and don’t be distracted by the bling along the way. I ask the Cosmos today to grant us ALL a generous balance between Hope and Authority in whatever manner it may show up. Be Well!
(*my thanks today to both “Raven” and “Tarotlore” for extensive citations & contributions. I didn’t have much to say and felt a bit grumpy, so I called in the Cavalry. Thank you.)
